Water on the floorboard? 850 1995

Morning all;
Recently after a heavy rainstorm that lasted the whole weekend here on the East coast, I noticed a soaking wet carpet on the driver's side floorboard and all the way under the driver's seat to the rearc passenger's foot area. I already had the heater core replaced last year and when I touched the liquid it is not slippery or does it smell like anti-freeze. It would seem like it was rain water but I haven't a clue how it is getting inside. Any thoughts?

    Had this happen once after a torrential rain in the Chicago area. I concluded that so much water had come in so fast through the fresh air vent in front of the heater fan that it flooded and worked its way past the fan and into the car. Drains were not clogged. I could hear lots of water sloshing around near the heater as I drove (during the rain). It has never so far happened again.

      ksg;
      I too hear water sloshing around somewhere behind the glove box. How did you get the water out of there or do I just have to let it work it's way out on it's own?

    Clean out the drain tubes for the plastic pan under the hood and just above the firewall. If they're clear check under that pan for drainage by removing a few of the screws holding it one side at a time.

      LarryP, are these drain tubes you speak of easy to identify once I open the hood up? Not sure what "pan" you are referring to either.

        Mr. Detail,
        My 850 is long gone so I just tried to get you in the area to find the drain tubes
        which are quite easy to figure out. As I redall they are on the ends of the pan under the windshield. Also, had to clean the inside cabin evaporator drain once, a rubber tube right in the center of the floor hump under the radio.

          I just replaced my cabin air filter (for Spring) and I noticed all the junk in the drain. On the SVC70 its about a 2.5cm diameter rubber tube by the cabin air filter. It took a while to unplug it (thankfully this was before the Nor'easter!), but it's simply amazing how much junk can get stuck in that drain tube over 10 years!

    Check the 4 drain holes for the sun roof. If the 2 up front "appear" to be open, pour a cup of water into each one to make sure they drain to the ground.

      Klaus, did not even know of any drain holes for the sunroof but it would make perfect sense to have someplace for any stray water to go. Can you be more specific for this amatuer as to where these holes are and how to clean them out iof necesary?

        The front drain holes for the SR are easy to spot in the left and right corners. The rear can only be accessed by removing the sunroof.
        If you hear water sloshing up front, it must be by the fan. If I remember correctly, there is a drain tube under the fan box to the bottom of the car. You do not have a cabin filter, do you? Otherwise, you would know what these guys are talking about. The cover under the hood, below the windshield, is held down by some Torx screws. This cover has 2 drain tubes to let water out, and leaves and pine needles clog these tubes. Each tube is about 1 inch in diameter. You can use a coathanger to get them clean and working.
        The water under the blower is a little harder to get to, but you need to find out why it collected there.
