Tranny shift adjustment 850 1993

Quick question - is there any shift adjustment on 850 trannies?

What I mean is there an adjustment to "soften" or "harden" the shifting?

For example, on my 240 I can soften (slow down) or harden (quicken) the shifting by adjusting the kickdown cable. My 850 seems to shift harder than my 240. Or maybe it is just the nature of the beast as most 850's seem to shift hard - especially going into second.

BTW - The tranny fluid is very clean.

Thanks,
Jim

I am not sure of the 1993, it is different. Other 850s do not have a kick down cable. All shifting is controlled by the TCU.
You may have an engine mount that is weak, allowing the tranny to shift positions and causing a clunk of something against a frame member.

      Thanks!

BTW - What is the TCU? I really need to get an 850 repair book :)

There is no clunking. It is simply a fast, hard shift as opposed to a slower, softer one. As I remember most, if not all 850's, felt that way to me.

Of course, if you wind it out to 5,000 rpm, it will shift quite hard into 2nd :) The TCU is the tranny computer, if your 1993 has one. I agree, you need to get a repair manual, it at least has pictures which is much better than the words.
I would still check for soft/broken engine mounts.

Guess I'd better stop reving it up 6000 rpm's :)
