Experiences on 2001 and later switch from dyno to synthetic V70-XC70 2001

Anyone out there that has experience with switching a 2001 or later model year car from regular oil to synthetic? Good or bad?

I have just acquired a 2001 V70 T5 with 71K. Want to switch to Mobil 1, but am hesitating.

Robert

    Thanks for all your comments.

It is on Mobil 1 now.

Next step will be to do a tranny flush.

I switched my 2001 S60 to Mobil 1 at about 50,000 miles. I did it while it was still under warranty, in case leaks developed. None did.

My main reason - I tow a fairly substantial trailer from time to time. Also, I figured out that if I generally went with the 7,500 mile oil change interval, it wouldn't really cost any more than changing regular oil at 3,750 (I figured 7,500 was too long for conventional oil).

Your car should be using synthetic anyway. Just change it with 10W30 synthetic and change it every 5K miles.

Just change the filter and install the new oil. There is no reason not to, and I have never seen any support for the old tale about the synthetic dislodging sludge and causing leaks, etc. I have used synthetic in a 1999 V70 when it was going to have a rough driving summer with a lot of hot weather.
