I want to upgrade my 810 player to a 816 player. Can anyone who owns a SC-816 tell me if it will play back CD-Rs and/or CD-RWs? Also, what kind of files can it play back, mp3 and/or wave? Or do the disks have to burned to red book standard (standard cd format)?

I've had v70's with 815 that play cd-r's just fine. They were burned in the standard format (i think i used ezcdcreator to make them) and i've only had issue when they've been Very scratched up.

Now the SC900 in my 98 V70 R really doesn't like scratches on CD-r's. it wont play ones the other players will.

I doubt the sc816 can decode mp3.

I recently got a '96 850T with the SC-816 - I've have 240's that I've installed CD/mp3 players in so I have a bunch of mp3 discs, come to find out that the SC-816 can't read them. In addition to this, it will not read all of my CD-R's either. So I'm thinking about pulling it out and installing an aftermarket head unit like I've done for all of my past bricks.

So the short answer to your question: it reads most burned CD-R's and cannot read mp3's.

That's makes sense actually. A CD-R burned to red book standard is usually no problem with any CD player. Automobile models should be no different. I'm going ahead with a SC-816 purchase.
