Computer Codes V70-XC70 1999

I must say the following, having 2 V's over the years I never utilized a web site to query any problems. Man's relationship with his transportation is either a necessity (with minimal service) or an affair where time/$ is secondary. Well teach an old dog a new trick, this site reminds me of my youth and my experiences in SCCA, only then we spent hour's over beers trading secrets, now it's coco and a keyboard.

To the meat,
On 3/15/07, in a response to a question about oil type, "Klausch" noted that he goes to AutoZone and they do a readout of the computer for codes? Is this while they do a oil change or is this a separate service?

Second part, since the real deal info seems to be a national secrete held in the Volvo vaults somewhere in Sweden, which is the best manual for the high tech that makes the newer models run.

Autozone offers, as a free service, to read and clear OBDII codes. No purchase required. Of course, if they are busy with paying customers, don't expect immediate service. Same it true with Pepboys franchises.

There are no more paper manuals for Volvos. You can get a CD of VADIS to copy to your PC, but beware, they are pirated software and require a lot of hard drive space to load on to your PC. You could also stop by your local library and see if they subscribe to Alldata. This database is used for all car makes and is quite good. It will require you to print a page or two, which libraries charge about 10 cents, but the "how to do it" sections are very good.

Drinking malt and hop blends while sitting at your PC is optional, of course.
