Heater blower not working 850

After reading the code 4-1-1 blower fan: over current or seized fan. I replaced the blower and the problem is still the same as it was with the old blower, but now i get the same code as before 4-1-1 and a new one 4-1-8 which i think refers to the power unit has no control signal. Where do i find the power unit? Any help would be appreciated. The car is always parked inside.

Good day Leeroy, I had similar problem on our V40, I checked for the electronic control unit under the area of the front passenger seat, next to the interior filter, remove the plug on the unit + 2 phillips screws, took it to a electronic sprare shop, they provide me with a 'transistor/thyristor', cost very little, replaced, all OK afterwards, here by us you can't be without a A/C in the car....

If you want pictures of the unit + area where it's located I'll gladly email you the details, part numbers, how to do it...I treated it as a DIY project...

I also need info on my cambelt problems, I tried contact somebody by us in South Africa, this was the reply 'your vehicle has a variable timing gear. You have to install a special cam lining tool to get the
correct settings, failure to do so can cause further damage to valves.'

What I need is a diagram etc. as the cost for repairs are very high...

Not true, but IPD usa makes one. This cam locking tool makes sure the cam stays in the same position while the belt is off. There are timing marks for both cams and the driveshaft sprocket. Always visually check the marks after the new belt is on and make sure you turn the engine 360 degrees before attempting to start. Removing the spark plugs makes this much easier.

The resistor unit usually fails when the fan fails. This unit is just left of the fan when viewed from the pass seat. There are 2 kinds, one for the control units that have 4 speeds (cheaper) and one for the ECC with variable speed (more expensive).

Hey Klaus and others,
My blower is making a high whining sound. Not sure if it is a bearing or perhaps an obstruction in an airway somewhere. You mentioned that the blower failing can fry the resistor unit.
Any suggestion on a diagnosis that might save me from replacing both?
-Matt

Your car may or may not have a pollen filter already installed. Check it out by pulling up on the plastic cover infront of the windshield. If you doon't have one, get the adapter and a filter and toss it in.
If you turn the fan to high speed, does it still make noise? If so, you will need a new fan motor, sooner than later. FCP Groton has them for $95, filters too.
