help with automatic climate control S70 1998

I'm new to front wheel drive forums so any help would be appreciated.

The problem is that I sometimes get the outside temperature coming in from the driver's side vents. For example, I can set both passenger and driver side controls on 80 for heat. Passenger side gets it (hot)but driver's side does not (cold). 30 minutes later, I can start the car and get the same strength of heat from both sides. Can someone direct me to a link or advise me on how to fix this? Thanks, George

This is a tough one. It could be the ECC unit itself... or something simple, like the in dash temp sensor being clogged. Do the recirc and AC lights ever blink after start up? When mine did that, the temp sensor was clogged with dust and the heat was different on either side of the car.
To clean the temp sensor (the right most switch button on the dash with a small grill at the bottom of it - just to the left of the radio) you need to remove the radio. Don't unplug the radio unless you remember where you keep the code! Then reach behind the ECC unit and pull it out, is is just held in with spring clips and can be a little balky :) Once the ECC is out, slide the radio back in.
Reach behind the grill opening for the temp sensor. A long round plastic tube which has pressure fittings at 12 and 6 o'clock. Push these in and pull out the twmp sensor, very carefully! There is a very fragile tube sticking out of the front which cannot be bent! Unplug it from the wiring. Clean off the fan, I used a round tooth pick, very gently, and blew the dust out. Then be ever so careful and put it back in the dash. Shove the ECC back in and try it out.

45 minutes the first time. 15 minutes the second time.

      Klaus,

Sorry to take so much time in replying. I've been away from the BB over the weekend on other Volvo (245) projects. I'll give what you suggested a try.

      Thanks,

      George

        Did that work for you?

I just got a 98 V70 R, and i just blew lots of dust out of the temp sensor, now i notice that the drivers side is much warmer than the passenger. if i have the Drivers on 72, the bassenger has to be on 80 to closley match the temp of air on the drivers side.

It actually seems to blow hot on the drives side anywhere up to the last 2-3 marks on the cold side.

        Thanks-
        Mike.

Everything seems to be working fine now after doing nothing. I will wait for a day when it is not raining or cold to see if getting the dust out produces any change. George

Well i really hope this will solve it.

i just popped the Climate controls out and my saffron bit me.

i have about an inch long gash in my right thumb. i have no idea what t cut myself on.

i'm only on the computer while i'm waiting to stop bleeding.
it's no fun trying to type left handed.

          Mike.

            Mike,
I hope you cleaned up the blood, you don't want the car to get rusty :)

That ECC unit is in there pretty tight and the first time it really takes a lot of pressure to "pop" out. Next time is much easier.

            A Saffron, eh. Nice!
