Engine types S70

Do the S40/V40 have basically the same engine as the 5-cyl cars? Same block, just four cylinders instead of five? How about the transmission - same one?

I asked on the S40 forum but it seems not too many people are visiting there...

Thanks.

I have been told that the engine is Volvo, essentially the in-line 5 with one cylinder cut off. I thought the transmission was Mitsubishi, which would not be all bad.

Anyone else know?
