    Kamen,

Like you I'm in the midde of the same thing with a 2001 V70 T5. If you read several similar threads, your find reference to Victor Rocha. Victor can repair the unit for a very resonable $140 (including his shipping). I noted you said the lights then went off. That I can't explain, but it does sound like a bad connection in the control module. The light may not be on at engine start and come on later as the system runs a self test at about 12 MPH, which is when my ligts come on. After my lights came on, the message display said ABS and STC service required. I had thought it was my control module as this seems quite common. However when it was sent to Victor, he told me the unit was fine. I had him still do the upgrade, and the part is now installed, but I still have the lights.

I borrowed a OBD-II reader, but can get no codes. I intend to try a different reader soon. I'd suggest you do the same before removing the part in case it is something else like mine is. However since it seems that these units are "not if it will fail" but "WHEN", you might do the upgrade with Victor and see if it fixes the problem.

Frequent readers of the Brickboard have seen this symptom of intermittent ABS/TRACS warning lights reported many times. This is common with ABS control units on the verge of total failure. It is due to temperature changes inside the unit affecting electrical connections.

Kamen mentioned that he saw the lights in the morning ... engine and ambient temp low. He said that the lights did not illuminate when returning home ... ambient temp warmer. It is classic.

Kamen: Do not wait. Contact Victor by e-mail. Keep in mind that removing your unit from a T5 will be a bit more difficult than an NA car due to additional intake air piping. Vic will guide you through it.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I think Dave has hit it well. If your T5 was like mine the only thing you'll find different in Victor's direction is you'll have to release the #5 torx screws before the main electrical connection can take place (it swings over to release). I also had to bend (just a little) the brake lines to get clearance to remove the control unit. It is really a pretty simple operation. One other tip: If your air cleaner is attached at 3 points with a spreading 4 pronged clip protruding up through the mount holes, these can easily be compressed closed using a 6 sided 3/8" socket on the end of an extension. You push down on the socket and pull up on the air-box to release. Hope this helps.

When this starts happening, this usually means that the ABS control module is going out....very common. A member here, Victor Rocha rebuilds these modules for a modest fee of about $140 compared to what the dealer wants for a new one (usually upwards of about $800).
