intermittent starting problem S70

Every so often my S70 won't start when i turn on the ignition. the trouble lights all come on OK but at the starter doesn't connect. The ignition is turned all the way but the starter isnt't connecting. Then I turn it off and then on again and it starts.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it is either in the ignition switch or the solenoid.

thanks

    intermittent starting problem S70

Year and miles would be nice.

It could be the electrical portion of the ignition switch or the PNP. The next time this happens leave the key in posII and with the foot on the brake, try to shift to N. If that works, turn the key to posIII and see if it starts.
If it doesn't shift, press the shift override button and put it in R and check the backup lights. If the lights are not on, you will probably need a new PNP switch soon. You can delay it by rowing the shifter from R to L about 20 times with the key in posII.

The ignition switch is easily accessed by removing the steering wheel shroud.
