Check engine light` C70 1998

When scanned, readout tells me: "ENGINE COLLANT TEMP CKT. RANGE/PERF".
Sounds like a simple collant temp sensor needs to be replaced. Any thoughts??
Any help as to where it's located??
Many thanks

The engine coolant temp sensor is located directly below the thermostat. The thermostat is under the large black hose from the top of the radiator to the engine, right above the alternator.
I suggest that you replace both the ECT and the thermostat at the same time. Drain about 1 qt of antifreeze from the engine before you start disconnecting anything.
