Have check engine light on and error code reads rear knock sensor signal absent or faulty. Have deleted code but it just comes back after three days. Is there any way to check out this sensor without removing manifold cover? Has anyone had experience with this one??

The knock sensors normally do not go bad. The wires, on the other hand... I wish Volvo would invest a small amount of funds to come up with better insulation for wires in the engine bay. Check the wires for chafing and the plug itself for corosion.

yes, reach under the intake and connect and reconnect the wireing as many times as you can before you bleed to death. It isn't easy. but I managed to put off changing a knock sensor for 300,000 miles. It is usually the connection being dirty.
