found a camshaft seal leak when doing the oil change today on my parents '96 850............... 850 1996

I replaced all the seals (including the cam seals) when the new engine was installed in September of '05. After seeing the leak, and it is really more of a seep, and seeing a little oil under the plug cover when I did a tune-up last week, I thought that maybe I needed to do more for the pcv system then replace the flame trap-which I did this past October. I was looking at FCP Groton's webpage, and was wondering if I should just replace everything when I am in there, or is the flame trap kit enough? Thank you one and all :)

The flame trap is only a part of the breather system. The worst culprit is usually the oil spearator under the intake manifold. The line from there should also be cleaned or replaced. Especially the one that goes up to the oil filler cap.

What weight oil are you using? I assume it is synthetic. You should be using 10W-30, the lighter 0W and 5W are too light and will weep around every seal you have. Fossil oil tends to loose its viscosity and help gum up any leaking seals, while synthetic will keep its viscosity and weep around the seals.

Thanks Klaus! My parents are using 20/50 Valvoline, and have done so for 370k. I will pick up a oil seperator (is that the "oil trap"?)as well as the hose to oil filler cap-as well as another flame trap kit. Hopefully that will solve the problem :)

Just clean the flame trap, but that little round screen? Throw that thing in the garbage!
The oil separator is between the intake manifold and the block. With a turbo engine, you will have to take off the manifold... it needs a new gasket if you do.
