Whistling noise 850 1994

Yesterday I stopped at a drive-thru and heard for the first time a whistling noise coming from the engine bay. First reaction was vacuum line, the car runs fine, noise varies with acceleration..from regular to high tone accordingly.

I checked under the hood to find that it comes from the belt drive area. Could this be the belt tentioner? The car runs fine, it's just noisy. Has anyone come across something similar to this? Thanks ahead of time!

Guillermo

Hi,
try dropping some water on the belts to see wether the noise comes from one of the bearings (stays) or the wornout belt (goes away). Mine was the old accessory belt.

Check the accordian section of the air intake. It may have cracked and developed a leak.

How old is your belt? once I hosed off all the salt and crude let dry and tried to get some oil in the center of the tensioner
