'97 Air Pump 850

Greetings,
Well, My car failed the emissions inspection. I have a bad air pump. I have removed the air pump, which was full of water, but have not replaced it yet. Does anyone know if the air pump from a '95 volvo 850 can be made to work? I have a '95 with a blown engine, but it had no OBD codes, so I think that pump is good. Anyway, I am just trying to save a bit of cash. If the '95 pump does not work, does anyone want to buy a '95 air pump?

Thnaks,
Stuart

When you pull the 1995, I think you will find it works great. If you don't follow fixit's suggestion, then drill a couple of drain holes in the pump housing to let the water out.

You really also need to find out why the pump filled with water. There's a temp controlled valve in the air inject system that isn't closing. This allows hot exhaust to get into the motor resulting in condensation build up. Could be the temp sensor or a corroded stuck valve. Usually it's the valve. If you don't fix it the new pump will fill up also. Unless of course you drill a drain hole in it like others have suggested.

You may try putting 12v on it once it dries out. It may run. My guess it they all probably have the same air pump. I lucked out and found a new one on ebay for a steal and there were several used ones as well. There's also a post here on converting a VW pump (real cheap) to run on a volvo.
