P0300 and P0301 V70-XC70

I finally got my OBDII scanner working. The only code I could pull from the computer was O0300. I then reset the CEL (nice to have this capability finally!)

However, when I started the engine back up it stalled. I started it again and it ran rough as it had done before. I checked the code again and I got a P0301 this time.

I know this means cylinder #1 is misfiring. I know the ignition module is getting 12v on the red wire. Is there any way to check the signals on the other two wires? I'm wondering what the best way is to troubleshoot this misfire?

Thanks,

RGW

Have you pulled the plugs and inspeccted them? Is #1 really wet? If so, it just might be that a new coil is needed.

I will inspect the plug this weekend. I was thinking of swapping the coil packs and seeing if the problem remains with cylinder #1. What do these coil packs typically cost? They look expensive! Could it be the ECM which is now under recall?

      Thanks,

I dont know much about the V70 series but the codes should be same as my 960. I did the swap thing too and found the reading on the "Swapped" cylinder to be the culpret now! Pulling it and looking closer I noticed the coil had a thin crack starting at the spark plug end and working its way up, almost to the top of the coil section) AutoZone has them pretty cheap..about $30USD each. One thing I did notice was the rubber or "insulators" inside the connector going to the coil was deteriorated and needed replacing. I couldnt find them, but i did put a small piece of rubber between the contacts. And the other thing was make sure you get "NOT ONLY the connector all the way in...But the Female connectors Pushed FULLY onto the Male ends of the coil contacts !! Good Luck !

Swaping the coils is a good idea and doesn't cost anything. A new coil pack is not that expensive and an auto parts store should have them. I doubt the ECM would pick on one cylinder.
