Alarm/Doorlock Motor problem S60 2001

Reading the manual for my S60T5 which I bought used almost a year ago, it
seems that if my car is equipped with an alarm system, there should be a
button on the console for it. There is no such button but I suspect that
there is an alarm system of some sort. Occasionally I would approach the car
and see that the driver's door was unlocked but as soon as I would open it an
alarm would go off. It would stop as soon as the "unlock" button on the remote
was pressed, but the red light on the top of the dash would blink rapidly until
I started the engine. I wondered about this off and on for some time and then
noticed that it was happening when I had locked the car with the remote but the
driver's door lock did not lock. (Sometimes with a second press of the "lock"
button on the remote, it does lock.)
It now seems that the alarm is happening when the computer has received the
command to lock the car but the driver's door is not locked and the computer
has not made itself aware of this, so when the door is opened normally it
believes it has been broken into.
My suspicion is that the motor that pulls the doorlock button down to do the
locking is sticking or weak. Can anyone confirm this? Can it be cleaned or
adjusted to be more positive in locking the door on command?

Thanks for any help you can give on this. On a 122 or a 164 I would know
exactly what to do but this is a whole nother kettle of worms!

Alarm/Doorlock Motor problem S60 2001

Welcome to central locking. I guess that everything is OK if you use the key. That means that the lock is OK. What normally kills these mechanisms is that the handle is pulled to open the door at the same time that the button on the romote is pushed. It is metal on plastic and the plastic piece usually breaks, relegating the whole unit to the trash heap. Cheaper to make, I suppose. But the plastic is almost impossible to fix.
This is the same piece of junk they have used since 1993, redesigned to make the older units obsolete of course. Besides, dealers can make more money because the door panel is not part of the drivetrain and they can put a rookie on it and still charge the going rate for labor.
When are you going to trade this thing in for a Lexus and retire?

Alarm/Doorlock Motor problem S60 2001

The doorlocks is a well known problem of the MY 2001 and even 2002.
I had at the end all door locks replaced some even twice(luckily under warranty). The replacement assembly is of better quality and last 3 years the locks stay okay.
So, replace the lock assembly and the lock (and alarm) problem will be solved.
