Has anyone installed the IPD skidplate? Is the attachment trustworthy? S80

I've been interested in installing an IPD-made skid plate on my daughter's new car. However, when I read the instructions (at their website, in .pdf), it seems like the plate is largely held up and supported by merely a rubber plug that, when a bolt is tightened, swells to hold itself in a hole by friction. It's rather disconcerting that there's no ample attachment with a trustworthy bolt.

Have any of you installed this protective plate -- and if so, any critique of this attachment method?

Thanks.

WELL WORTH IT....It won't come off if that's what you're worried about. S80

I have installed them on 850 and S70's and then are great. Easy to install too and rugged. Volvo has a similar model too, but this utilizes slots and holes already in the subframe. Just drive it up on a set of Rhino ramps and do it.

I have them on my 2002 S80 and 2002 V70. Had a local garage put them on. I would not atempt installation without a lift (e.g., jack stands). Had to modify some attachment hardware (modify delran bushing, I think).

I'm happy with the performance of the skidplate on both cars.

Here's a stupid question for you. What is a skid plate? What purpose does it serve?
Thanks

It bolts on under the engine and transmission under the car...if you went off road (by accident or for fun) and scraped your underbelly on a big rock for instance, you could tear a hole in your oil pan and we're talking big expense not to mention the possibliliy of over-heating if not dealt with quickly- then a ruined engine. So, it's great insurance. I have the IPD one on our S70 but not on the V70 YET.
