Hi all,

My wife noticed that the check engine light came on on her drive home this evening...?

I checked the obvious, oil level (just changeed it), fluid level (just changed it too) and nothing? I added STP gas treatment (to remove any unwanted water from fuel system) to the new tank of fuel at the last top off yesterday afternoon and am wondering if that may have anything to do with the light being on or not... Ahh...yes the gas cap is on tight...done that before...

Stopped in @ Stillman's Volvo this am here in West Chester... Code indicates that the coolant temp sensor was faulty and that the thermostat itself was sticking open... Replaced both at $300 @ 85,500m...

Next time you get a CEL, stop by an Autozone or Pepboys and have them read it for free. Then come post the problem here and we will try to help you fix it yourself and save a ton of money.
Besides, the dealer probably charged you double the labor. It is the same procedure to change the thermostat and change the temp sensor. You could have done it in less than 30 minutes.

Thank you to both of you. 2 weeks ago I bought a 2001 C70 with 51,500 miles, and today the CEL came on. I checked this board first and I'm glad I did! Off the Pep Boys I go....

Klaus, one item i didn't ask....does the CEL reset itself when replacing the faulty temp sensor? Can the folks at Pepboys or Autozone do it...? Thanks again....Frank
