850 rear seat removal 850

I have a rear seat saturated with used motor oil after my dad slammed on his brakes while going 70 to make a red light. It's very nasty.

So, followed the manual and pulled the flat pin on the outside of the seat, but I can't get it to come loose. It doesn't help that every time I squeeze the seat I get a handful of oil. Will removing the bolt on the center bracket help? Do I need to remove the smaller seat back first? I'm currently trying to remove the passenger side rear seat back.

thanks,

    This is a sedan correct?

The rear seat is three parts on a sedan.

The first two are the uprights. These squeeze down on the actually flat part of the seat and keep it contained.

The bottom flat part of the seat can be removed by simply pulling the part which meets the floor straight up. Its held by springs but does not require any bolt removals... maybe you can simply lift that part up without removing the back part of the seats. Since the part under the seat on the floor is on angled upwards i would not think any oil got in that part except for the near edges.

If you have to remove the back part of the seat tip the seats flat to access the trunk area.

Remove the side bolsters (the part that does not go down when you access the trunk from the interior of the car. These are held on by by springs and clips and you simply yank it out of place.. start from the top part and then lift it out of the bottom part.

The part of the seat which goes down is held on with a clip on each end. Simply put in a screw driver and yank out each side. The retaining clip keeps the pivot bolt in there..so you have to pull outwards away from the seat to get it released..then pull it up and out.

There is a part that joins the two parts of the reclining seat together.. is this what your referring to as a bolt? This part simply fits into each other..after you remove each edge of the seat from the clips..wiggle it loose. The larger passenger side backrest has the male fitting of this bolt/spear.

When you remove the drivers side of the back part of the seat.. the passenger side which is the larger part of the seat will come out because the shaft/spear gets thinner at the end and can now make it though the round metal reinforcement which holds the seat down.

Hope this all makes sense and good luck with the oil spill!

The worse part of your trouble I imaginewill most likely be getting the oil out of the carpets which may mean you have to remove the front seats and lift the carpet out of it and get them treated with a grease remover.
