Engine mount inspection S70 1998

Could anyone advise what to look for when inspecting an engine mount? KlausC has recommended checking the lower right mount to explain the crack in the flex section of my exhaust manifold. Also how does one get at this mount - through the wheel well? Thanks.

    John,
My engine mount rubber was in 2 pieces. The mechanic found it while replacing the ball joints. So, yes, it is just above the A arm. You will need to push back the flap in the inner fender.

You get at the mount through the right wheel well. If it looks trashed, it's an easy replacement. Jack up the front end and put it on jack stands. Put a piece of 2X4 crosswise on the pan and jack it up just slightly. The mount is bolted to the subframe and there are two bolts into the engine block--jacking up the pan takes the pressue off the bolts into the block. I did this in 45 minutes-hour. All the jacking takes longer than the R&R of the mount. Here's a link with great instructions and pictures:

You can get the mount from FCP Groton www.fcpgroton.com
