90 vs 87 thermostat

Why would a 90* thermostat cause an engine to run cooler than an 87* thermostat?

90 vs 87 thermostat

The difference is that the 87 degree one opens at 87 degrees so it will open FASTER. This is nice especially on a cold morning. Once the temp is up to operating temp, there is no real difference between either of the thermostats.

it shouldn't, unless the 90* t-stat is defective (in the open position), thus not allowing the engine to reach optimal operating temp.
