ODB2 Code P0410 and multiple 'not ready' messages 850

Hello,

I've got a 1996 850 GLT Wagon. Until recently I had something like six "not ready" (egr, cat, o2s, 2air, ho2s, one other I can't remember) readings on my ODB2 scanner and a P0410 error (secondary air system intake problem). The P0410 is usually indicative of a bad SAS valve, relay or air pump. I replaced the SAS valve and now I'm down to "not ready" status only on o2s, cat and egr. Today the engine light came on again due to the P0410 code. The funny thing is that I hear the pump running at cold start for about the first minute or so. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards,
Jorg

If you haven't drilled a couple of leak holes into your air pump, you may have water in the bottom of the pump.
Or the relay for the SAS is inop.
The "not ready" codes are there because the car has not been driven through enough cycles. There is a lengthy procedure to follow to make the car ready.

Could be other leaks- hoses for one...I know it's normally a different code, but also check your gas cap for seal. Do all of this and then see if you still get a code. Otherwise, even though you hear your air pump, you might have to replace it. The previous SAS valve leaking condensation into the pump might have fried it.

It's funny you mention the gas cap thing, although I don't fully understand how it could be related to the P0410 error. When I initially got the car inspected, it failed for having a bunch of OBD2 "Not Ready" codes, but also for low gas cap pressure reading. I replaced the gas cap hoping I'd get lucky, but from the last post it sounds like there is a chance these two problems could be related. Any suggestions on how I could test this or if I'm the right track?

I think that Klaus hit the nail on the head. Go over to www.volvousa.com and look under owner library section. It will tell you what you have to do to run through the drive cycles. If you disconnected your battery recently or you replaced any sensor, your car will most likely have to go through these before it is ready. I would try that before inadvertently replacing an air pump. Just check your gas cap. You should be able to tell if the rubber gasket in it is damaged in any way. I mentioned it but from the code you're getting, I'm starting to doubt it and lean towards what Klaus had to say.
