keyless entry S40-V40

Hi all,

Quick question for my Dad, and his S40....He has a keyless entry device with an alarm button on his keyring.. he in the past pressed the button on his alarm and the headlights or foglights would blink...so he knew the alarm was on...now when he presses it, they do not... the doors still unlock and lock when pressing the keyless entry so I do not think it is the battery in the device.. could it be a fuse...I hope you guys know what I am saying, having a hard time explaining it.. do not have alarm on my S70 :)
Thanks,
Di

Make sure all the doors, trunk and hood are fully slammed closed. For example, if the hood is not slammed shut completely, the switch will not signal the alarm that all circuits are closed. The locks will lock normally but the lights won't blink. As soon as the hood does finally get fully shut, the lights will blink.

It could also be that the switch is bad. Same scenario will happen.

Your Dad must have had work done at the dealership where they downloaded new software. Mechanics can change the software settings to enable/disable the lights to blink when the key fob is used to lock the car.
As for your S70, I had thought they all had alarms. Your car does not have a blinking light on top of the dash which comes on when you lock the car? No horn on the firewall? Roll down the window, lock the car, and then reach in and open the door from the inside. That should activate the alarm.

I have found that the club works best if you stay near the car and CLUB whoever is breaking into your car over the head!!

My S40 has the flashing light but no alarm. The light is the engine immobilizer. In some countries the alarm is an option, not standard. But the immobiliser is standard, there is an electronic ID tag inside the key and a pick-up ring on the ignition switch. Without the correct electronic ID, the engine will not start.

As for the non-flashing indicator light, possibly the transistor/relay inside the alarm unit has failed.
