SQUEAK!!!!!!!!! S70

I know there are threads about squeaky breaks, but I cant seem to find what I need. What are a good replacement rotor and pad (front) for a '98 S70?
I have put new pads on last year from Autozone, and sure enough they started squeaking. bad enough to turn heads, plug ears, and yes even make comments.
The pads are still good though...the rotors can be turned once.
Should I try turning the rotors to remove the ridges and use the same pads, or am I wasting my time?
If anyone has any insight on this I would appreciate it.

I mix OEM rotors and pads on the rear brakes all of the time. I like PBR Metal Masters, less dust. The rear pads come with shims builtin, but I still use anti squeal brake grease from IPD. It really works.
The only time you ever need to turn rotors is when a small lip forms on the outside edge, but then the rotor is usually too thin for new pads anyway.

Don't use aftermarket pads with Volvo rotors, problems will be constant. The OEM pads are good, except for all the brake dust. Drilled or slotted rotors allow gas from the pads to vent, which improves response under heavy breaking.

Personally, I am stunned by how many miles (going on 40K) I am getting with Brembo drilled rotors and MetalMaster pads. Great breaking and no squeeks.

You need oem pads...also plenty of lithium grease behind the pads. No one recommends turning Volvo rotors. If you need new ones buy Zimmerman or Brembo...these are considered OEM. fcpgroton.com sells all of these at a fair price.

I would not use Lithium grease on the brakes. It is ordinary low temperature grease and will wreck your brakes. You want brake grease. Volvo sells small tubes of the right stuff for use on backing plates, pins etc.

Volvo sell the small tube of white silicon grease. That is what I'm using on the Volvo brake pads (front and rear). About $10 for a small tube, quite expensive but worth it.

Thanks M.I.J. I always respect your opinion! What is the advantage to haveing holes or slots drilled in the rotor. I would think it has something to do with heat. I also heard that Volvo pads wear very fast?

No real advantage with the drilled/slotted except they look really really nice (they do help if you are really braking and have hills, etc.). I was wrong about the lithium grease. You DO WANT the brake grease, and plenty of it. Thanks to another brickster for correcting me on that one.

Suggest you buy OEM parts S70

The original Volvo pads lasted over 50,000 miles on my wife's V70, but it is manual transmission, and your driving habits may be different. I suggest stock Volvo parts. Don't turn the rotors, that seems like foolish economizing. Good luck.
