Turn signals working off and on S70 1998

Hi Everyone,

Just need your help..if possible...I just bought a S70 98...I owned a 91 240 for 8 years but lost him 3 weeks ago in an bad accident,,someone hit me at a stop sign on my side and the damage was unbelievable...my volvo saved my life..I am devastated with the whole thing.. but I am blessed to have walked away from it with minor injuries... .so now I have my new fellow who I am trying to get used to, big difference between the two..My question is the turn signals..sometimes when I start the car the signals do not work, they don't light or click.. but the hazards work so it is not the light bulbs...other times I start the car and they work... I was thinking am I starting it wrong? I am so used to pressing the gas pedal to start my 240, which with the s70 I don't need to.. would that make a difference... probably not..I just got him last Friday, so still getting used to it... what would cause this... and sometimes if I restart the car they work... kind of confused....thank you all for your help in advance...and God bless Volvos....

An additional possibility to ignition switch and/or primary wiring as suggested - I've had flashers that intermittently wouldn't work in a couple of cars - usually but not always in cooler weather (until the car's interior is warm). Cure when it became irritating enough was to just replace the flasher.

Qite a step up from the 240! Sorry about the bad news, I really like 240's.

These modern cars are full of electronics, and that is a weak point. When your turn signals don't work, try jiggling the key a little bit. If that "fixes" it, you will need a new ignition switch (behind the key, and it looks just like a 240!). Also check your fuse, pull it out and make sure the contacts are clean of corosion. This fuse #27 also has backup lights.
