hello-

about 200k plus on my brick and it has been a great car. just last weekk the dreaded flashing arrow came up. as this came on the car is now bucking and seems to have lost all control of shifting. it is an auto. do i need to replace the trans? or is it just the pnp switch?

how long is it safe for me to drive before big damage?

hope someone can help, i don't want to retire this puppy yet.

ok, checked codes and i came up with:

leading me towards a bad MAF. could it be this simple and cause my car to run with the symtoms?

It would seem like it. Could just be the connector to it. Try to pull the connector off, clean it and put it back on.

You can also download the 850 Service Manual and open the pdf in it called "Tests With Codes" or "Tests with Codes Turbos" (depending on which one you have). It has a lot of trouble shooting for the different codes and goes through a process of illimination as well as actually measuring the voltage on different sensors etc., so you don't just end up throwing parts at your car.

this weekend i replaced my PNP switch and my MAF and nothing changed!! ha ha... had a feeling about that. still lurching when at a stop and pull away to drive. could it be the IAC? i remember replacing this on my 740 after similar responses.

Mine did the same thing when the MAF sensor went out. Are you getting any codes? Check engine light?

As soon as you check the codes for the tranny, try clearing them all. When you get the yellow arrow again, check the codes again - that will give you the best diagnosis.

i am going to get some time to check the codes in the morning. i replaced the MAF about 1 and 1/2 years ago, i dont think that is the prob, but thankks for the heads up and ill post the codes.
