I think having a traceable service history including CarFax is far more important than the exact model and year, if the car in question has the features you need. On a well maintained car troublesome items like the 'drive by wire' module that failed often on some years will have been upgraded already. I'd look for any evidence of overheating or poor cooling system maintenance as well as emission test failures, very severe use, or any other unresolved or excessive wear and tear issues on the particular car.
