Well, speaking of tires rubbing..., 225/50-16 on 7x16 stock wheels ... any rubbing trouble?. S60

Given the prior thread, www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=1115647, that prompted me to ask this (for a '07, which the pull-down doesn't accommodate yet):

I'm looking ahead a few months when I plan to replace the stock 205/55-16 tires with 225/50-16. It's the exact same rolling circumference, but a serious upgrade in traction (from Michelin MXV4 in H to Pilot Exalto PE2 in W).

Assuming the stock 7x16 wheels, should there be any concern about rubbing?

Thanks.

Unless your S60 has sport springs, which lowers the chassis about 1 inch, I don't think having a 1 inch wider tire will make a difference. If you turn the wheels to the max, I suspect you will find about 1.5" of room at the inside fender.
There may be a rub if you bottom out the suspension at a full lock turn, but that is not normal driving. Except at the bottom of my driveway :)

Good to hear .... thanks! S60

re: "...Unless your S60 has sport springs,... I don't think having a 1 inch wider tire will make a difference...."

The car is otherwise completely stock. It came with Energy MXV4 Plus tires (not particularly sticky - I used to have them myself before I upgraded as below) in 205/55HR16, which I feel isn't good enough for my daughter (and only child :-). She just bought the car (an '07) herself, but I'm going to buy her a set of 225/50WR16 Pilot Exalto PE2's. I've put them on my and my wife's cars (16 inch Hydra and 15 inch Virgo wheels), and I'm really happy with them.

Anyway, this size has exactly the same rev's/mile and (of course) diameter as her original tires (according to Michelin's website) so she won't have any speedo/odometer error.

I'm glad to hear it will fit with no problems -- I personally haven't even seen her car yet, as she lives in L.A. and I'm 3,000 miles away in NJ.

      Thanks again.
      Best regards,
