Code P0102 -stalling 850 1994

I thought I'd share my experience with this code in case other folks have the same problem. My car stalled about three months ago while driving uphill 500 feet after leaving the house in the morning. It re-started really easy but idle was rough and it would not rev up or move forward when put in gear (automatic), so I had to towe it to the dealer. The dealer didn't find anything wrong with it (they couldn't duplicate the problem) so they cleaned the battery connections (the green stuff was all over)and hoped for the best. The car run fine for the next two months, but about 3 weeks ago the car died twice at consecutive red lights. The difference this time was that when I re-started it right back after stalling and reved it up full throtle, I felt it 'clean up'. Then it run fine for another 3 weeks and then the same thing happend....it stalled twice when driving back home;I was able to re-start appliying full throtle, but the second time I got the checkengine light. The car then run fine, but next day I took it to Advance Auto Parts for a free scan, and I got P0102 (MAF or VAF circuit low input).
Here's what I did: Yesterday, I took the MAF out and cleaned it with qtips, and also replaced the airfilter (it was about time). Today I drove the car for 150miles and it run great and the check engine light desapeared.

94 850 turbo wagon 52K miles.

Was the MAF visibly dirty? Was the intake system also dirty? Dirty MAF sensor can certainly explain your symptoms - but I wonder if it's time to start saving up for a new one. Alternatively some owners have had problems like yours which was traceable to the connector plug to the sensor - not necessarily the sensor itself. See previous posts on this issue.

Hi--I have the same problem and I am going nuts, because they tell me it is the airflow meter--and I have changed it 2 times. I know it is some very inexpensive, or dirty connection--maybe. But other than the stalling the car is strong, does not idle rough nor have engine nocks

What is the MAF or VAF? please let me know.

The MAF had some dirt spots, but this is the first time I look at one, so I don't know what a used MAF looks like. The connector looks like new, including the conducting grease, and the wiring doesn't show any signs of wear. So I hope that cleanining the MAF did the trick. The car is running great.
