AWD system V70-XC70 2003

We have a 2003 XC70 (42K) going off warrenty about this December. I haven't had the opportunity to yet go under the car, pull the skid plate and look. Based on all the bevel gear issues: is it located forward or aft in the drive train: is it apparent how to check the level (plugs?); it sounds like the ATF and bevel gear fluid should be changed every 60K (?), Volvo or synthetic (?). I have been printing out the recent discussions on the ATF being a flush NOT a drain. I find the lack of good maintenance information on this car to be a serious draw back to consider in purchasing an other Volvo (my 940 is getting tired).
I would never have located the AT fluid level stick if not tipped off by this site discussion.
PS: I hope someone at Ford/Volvo checks this site. Word of mouth sold the earlier Volvo's!!!!

Since you have the "later" haladex system and not the early viscous coupling, your AWD system is going to be a lot less prone to issues. In fact, I hear very little of these going out at all.
