when my xc90 is running, i hear a noise under the hood, it sounds like a puppy is barking down there.... very strange. anyone else got this problem?

I have a 2005 XC 90 equipped with a pack of swedish hounds under my hood also. My dealer gave me the "is he nuts" look as I described the problem, but did humor me and ran some diagonistics. Results - couldn't hear or detect a problem.

So I tried to logically identify what could cause the sound, which does sound like dogs barking. I believe that it might be the dampers in the climate control system as it sounds like an opening and closing of this type of system parts. It follows a sequential pattern.

I'll run this by the dealer during my next visit and report back.

That depends on how many miles you have on your car. Could it be a serpentine belt noise? Does the noise go away with increased throttle? The engine bay is so crammed full, there is no room for puppies or cats.
