Automatic shift knob breaks S70 1999

Does anyone have a better solution than the OEM automatic shift knob, mine breaks every 1.5 years. It crack near the place were you squeeze it to shift to different gears like reverse for example.

When you replace the shifter again, drop some oil down the sides of the button to help it slide up and down.

Well i am wondering if anyone has purchase a non oem shifter for an automatic that is better then the dealer. I have had 2 dealer shifters and they all break in the lower part of the shifter. I see the plastic is thin. The dealer puts them on for free as it happens to often to these cars. I hoped that since 1998 or whenever these cars started out that there was a better solution then to get a new shifter that breaks again and again.

I only drive this car 10 miles a day so i am beginning to think this car is very unreliable with things breaking all the time. This isnt the only problem i have had.

Well, my 1998 and 1995 have a combined 215,000 miles and no problem with the shifter.
I would take a look at Ebay, just to see if anyone claims to have a Hurst shifter that fits.

Seems that www.ipdusa.com had some for autoshifters. Otherwise I would look on eBay too. Neither the 850 or current S70 has had this problem.

I only have 59,000 miles on my 99 S70 GLT which is very low but i read on the brickboard and volvospeed in the past about many people having this problem. Sandberg Volvo is where i go for my dealer work and they say this is kinda common. They even have a guy put it on for free it so common.

I was hoping for a better fix. I dont have a leather one but i dont want one if it breaks because i just keep buying new ones. Maybe that is what volvo had in mind? I am always having small problems with this car, kind of like when my parents owned a ford along time ago. I thought maybe other people here had other solutions. This is a great place for friendly people and good ideas!
