99 s80 t5 tcm pre-programed or dealer programed? S80 1999

ok.. i'm convinced the trans control module has gone amuck. my trans torq converter stays locked and i've got no trouble codes. the trans shifts perfectly otherwise ect. i went to volvo and explained my delema to my local volvo dealer and imediately his response was "the trans is junk" i asked how he knew that. i realize they have their share of problems but i've never seen a "junk" trans that shifts firm/quick and thows no codes. i asked if the tcm comes pre-programed or if i buy a new one do i need to get it programed at there at the dealer. i couldn't get a straight answer :( . anyone know? can i purchase a tcm and just swap it out? thanks

The tcm is re-programmed by the dealer. There are others who have had the tcm upgraded because the tranny won't shift to neutral when stopped. There is a TSB related to that problem.
Are there any other dealers close to you?

Just 40 miles? Between the coasts, we have hundreds of miles between dealers. And the TWO!! in the Twin Cities no longer service cars older than 1993, which leaves out 240s and 700s.
Us Midwest nuts would think anything less than 100 miles on way to a dealer "close". One of the Brickers in Edmonton, Canada, has a choice: drive to Rapid City, SD or the Twin Cities, MN.
Be glad there are 5 dealers in your "neighborhood", and I hope one of them is smart enough to reprogram your tranny. When you do, go back to the first dealer you went to and tell that service manager you just saved thousands and he lost a customer.

yeah but milliage is all relitive.. 40 miles in a volvo s80 can prove to be an all day event. lol..just kidding. actually it's going to go by, by. bought it for $12,500 less then 90 days ago because of the super low milliage. i owe $7,700 for it and i'm going to list it for my pay off. figure that will make up for it needing a tcm program. it shifts perfect in manual mode too. just don't need it. i have my toy (928 porsche) and the expidition. it just turned 60k and i think the trade in is atlest 10k. i'll post it here later before ebay.
