'01 S60 code PO455 Emissions System failure S60 2001

Group:
I have been resetting the CE light, fault code PO455 and dash message by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so, but the fault code keeps coming back. Other than the gas cap, what is the most likely source of a a leak?
I have heard of a valve of some kind near the charcoal(?) cannister or the connections to it. Repairs will be done by a good independent and I would like to have a few opinions of where to start replacing parts.

Fortunately, the car runs fine.

    I cannot find anything that looks liKe your description, or the description found is another thread. I have heard that there is a charcoal cannister somewhere in the front passenger side. I hope the indie shop can find it. No reason to suspect the gas cap since I have never ever had or heard of a bad one. It has been inspected and tightned repeatedly.

      I have access to VADIS (Volvo software) and found your EVAP valve on the driver's side of the fan housing at the front of the car. It is attached about 3/4 of the way up on the housing with a mounting of its own and looks rectangular with nipples at right angles from each other. It looks easy to replace. Each nippple should be covered with a hose. One of the hoses comes from/off of the charcoal cannister located under the heat deflector plate near the fuel tank in the rear of the car. The other appears to go on to the front of the engine. Problem is that on your car, I also see an EVAP purge valve located under the heat deflector, almost attached to the fuel pump. Let's hope that if you need to replace a purge valve, that's not the one. VADIS lists the first EVAP valve I mentioned as part #9470775 for '01's. I have a diagram I can send you if you have an email. If you look that part number up at http://www.foreigncarpartsonline.com/ you'll find a description of it and price at $22.59. Seems like it's a fairly cheap gamble to me. Anyway, hopefully this information helped.

        Did find the two-hose thingy just as you said, on the fan shroud.
        Have not looked under the back yet.
        The pic of the valve was for an S80.
        Did not find one for an S60.
        I will supply the indie shop with all the info.

    I posted a response then realized that it's for an '01 S60...and not an 850 or 70 series car (so deleted what I wrote earlier, but can't delete the entire post now...so I'll ramble on) so I'm not sure what to say. Could be the purge valve as you suspect. Not sure where it is on your car, but on ours it's near the top of the radiator, under the front cowl and a small hose runs in it and out of it. It's very easy to do it ourselves on our cars. Could be this or your gas cap seal is just bad, or some small vacuum hose(s) that are leaking. Good luck!
