Unusual electrical problem 850 1995

Hi

Sometimes and ONLY at start-up:

- my ABS MIL will go on

- my flashers, headlamps and brake lights will not work

- impossible to put the tranny in drive (except if I press the shiftlock
override button)

The problem will never resolve while driving but it will never appear while driving either

Does someone know what that problem could be?

95 850 N/A

Thanks

Yes it does sound like an ignition switch going bad. Try jiggling it like he said next time it happens. Also there was a recall to replace the shift micro-switch due to failures, maybe yours was never replaced? It was a factory recall so it should be covered free.

Electrical portion of ignition switch? Do you have a lot of junk on your key ring?

Wiggle the key around the next time it happens.

Just did our 850 for the same symptoms. Stuck in Park, ABS light on etc.

Replaced the electrical partion of ignition switch and presto, solved. Pretty easy 30 min or so job. Check volvospeed/bay13 for the procedure. Switch was about $45. from Groton.
