1994 855 NA 161K on the clock

After reading several posts regarding
the oil separator, I decided I would take
a look-see this weekend. I have been
having some symptoms of excessive
crankcase pressure including oil leaking
past the dipstick and oil filler cap (I replaced
both the O-ring and filler cap seal 12 months
ago - still leaking)
Here is what I found when I pulled the intake
manifold and got a good look at the
flame trap and oil separator.
A puddle of oil in front of the throttle body
via flame trap, flame trap dirty, but not clogged
small vacuum line from manifold to flame trap
completely blocked. Oil separator was full of
crud, but air was still moving through all of the
passages - passage from oil separator to oil
pan was 80 percent blocked. small vacuum line
to the bottom of the throttle body was disconnected.
Upon removal of the spark plug cover a lot of oil
was found under the cover that had leaked out
the filler cap and drained under the cover.

I am going to replace the oil separator and the hoses
that I can not clean. Are these clogs enough to cause
excessive crankcase pressure? it's hard to believe that
such a small vacuum line going in to the flame trap
would have such a large impact. I guess I'll know the
answer when the parts come next week and I can put
it all back together.

    The little vacuum line is always exposed to full manifold vacuum (high vacuum exists at idle) because it is beyond the throttle plate. The big one receives partial vacuum since it enters the air stream before the throttle plate. It is a way of regulating the amount of vacuum drawing the oil fumes under various conditions (works similar to PCV valves which have springs, etc inside them).

    I get to do my V70 next week. The turbos are a little different, the little vacuum line goes to the turbo intake area instead of the TB. I think that is all gummed up. The previous owner used petrolium oil 10W30, I use synthetic 5W40, and that stabilized it.
    There is a lot of crankcase pressure and having tubes blocked at 80% hurts. Think of your arteries being 80% blocked!
