Incorrect Gas Gauge Reading after Recall 850

The dealer finished replacing the gas tank under the recall, (my gas tank was leaking by the heat shield). I filled up this morning and now my gas gauge doesn’t read past a half a tank. I made sure I filled it up, I kept tripping the shutoff until gas started coming out. Where is the fuel level sensor in the tank and how could they made it read incorrectly after installing a new tank? I’m really hoping they don’t say it’s unrelated to fixing the tank because I have never, never had a problem with the fuel gauge in the car and I’ve had it since new.

As a side note, I was a little miffed I gave them the car with about a 1/2 tank of gas and I got it back with not even a 1/4 of a tank.

Thanks,
Scott

Incorrect Gas Gauge Reading after Recall 850

Unbelievable!!! I brought my car back to the dealership that replaced the fuel tank under the recall, after the recall the gas gauge was not reading past 1/2 a tank after I filled the tank. The dealership said they put the fuel level sender in wrong and have repaired problem (per invoice). Fine mistakes happen, no big deal, get the car back but NOW my gauge won’t come off the full mark!!! I’ve driven 150 miles and my and my gauge is still pegged on 18 gallons! Unless they fitted me with a magic tank that produces gas I think they messed up my fuel level sender!

Is it really that hard to get the fuel level sender working properly, or is it flat out broken?

Thanks
Scott

The sender for the gas gauge is behind the rear seat. One of two round aluminum covers under the carpet. Try using your bare fist and carefully bang it (watch out for the wires). It may be just stuck and have some air in it. Or you could call the dealer and ask if they would look at it. My guess is they would only replace it, charge you for the part and not the labor.
