Hi:

About 5000 miles ago my 2000 S70 non-turbo would suddenly die right after engaging drive. It would start right back up and not do it again for sometimes a week or so. Now it is becoming more frequent. As soon as I roll to a stop the RPM needle will go up and down and finally settle at 800-1000. Sometimes I can rev the engine up in park and as it comes down in RPM it will die. Is there an idle control valve on these cars? Or could it just need throttle body cleaning? Thcar has 82,000 miles on it and I haven't had a problem with her until now.

it does this hot or cold. And there are no codes.

    I have a 2000 S70 SE and just got a free (due to recall) software upgrade to correct an idle problem. I need to check if it fits the ETM description and the fix # - don't have the paperwork handy. I was to resolve problem similar to yours...engine hesitating and then failing - its 100 degrees out - so I had the A/C on of course (may not be part of problem). The car was towed to my nearby dealer when it finally would not start. The upgrade went in yesterday and today it drives great with engine response slightly improved - best its been since I've owned the car (3 years).

    Could be signs of the ETM failure. My suggestion is to take it to the dealer. The ETM is now covered by them for 200K miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

      Sorry to be so stupid but what is the ETM? Also I meant to add that the problem seems to happen more frequently when the AC comprssor is engaged.

        It will tell you plenty and then you can decide if this is the issue.
