The bearing presses into the spindle then the hub presses into the bearing. Tricky even with the factory tools. Removal of spindle is doable but replacement of bearings is not a backyard operation.

Bay 13 has some instructions for the S70. Yours will probably be similar. As I recall, I had to get a large socket for axle (either 32mm or 34mm for the S70, I don't recall). The S70 also required a female torx socket set; I already had one of these. Either an impact wrench or a breaker bar will be helpful for removing the axle bolt. A torque wrench for the installation will be very helpful.

When working on the car, remember to disconnect the battery (find the radio code before you do this) to disable the active air bags. Also inhibit the SIPS airbags located in the sides of the front seats. My '98 S40 has a cover on the door side and to the back of the lower seat halfs which you pull off, in there is a plastic interlock which you slide into position to prevent triggering of these passive air bags (i.e. the ones that do not use battery power to activite). I would suggest getting a Haynes manual. The older manuals (from 80's) frustrated me, but these newer ones are useful.
