REAR calipers: seizing versus frozen pins V70-XC70

Q: Has anyone had a seized REAR caliper? Or just simply stuck guide pin?

Symptom: - Intermittent grinding noise from REAR AFTER braking, i,.e, from stop light going at low speed like 10-20 mph. Grinding disappears after 30 seconds.

-REAR pads change at 48K miles in June 2004, car now at 75K.
-Visually checked pads, they are OK not worn.

The last time I serviced the REAR brake, I was careful in greasing the guide pins but I wonder is the caliper is seized now.
Seems early for seizing up because brake calipers typically last 12yr+ and 120K miles or so.

Anyway, I will check the REAR brake soon but would appreciate any opinion.

REAR calipers: seizing versus frozen pins V70-XC70

Any caliper could seize. Is either of the rear wheels getting hot when you drive? Feel any drag or pull?

One possibility is the parking brake - assuming the noise is not really consistently related with your using the regular brakes. Some people have had the parking brake shoes come unbonded and make noises. A simple test of park brake mechanism is to pull up lightly on the parking brake (not enough to create much drag at all) and see if the noise changes or goes away.

Also if a wheel bearing is bad the rotor might run out and cause some intermittent braking behavior.
