I have a 99 S70 Base 2.4. 126,000mi. 2wks ago my wife was driving to work when the care just started coasting after making a turn with no gears able to engage. The clutch pedal was and is still stiff, but will not engage in any gear. I took it to my inde, who said that he had never done a 5spd on this model, but should not be a problem. I ordered a clutch kit before it was apart, and was told once the trans was out that the clutch did not look bad, but since it had so many miles to replace. The kit came with slave cyl and pilot bearing. I was told that the flywheel was bad, and ordered a new one as well. When it was all said and done and back together the car was making a noise in the tranny that sounded like a sqeel or belt chirping. My mechanic said it was a bad pilot bearing! It only made the sound when the clutch was not depressed. As soon as you depressed the clutch the sound went away. The car goes through all the gears, and works fine except for the squeel. So, when he goes to back the car out he gets out of the garage, and no clutch again!!!!!!!! It is in the same position it was when I initially brought it in. I just got back in touch with the mechanic today, and he says that he took the trans back out, and says it is a bad throw-out bearing. My question is where do I go from here. I have never had any problems or felt as if I was being taken advantage of by my mechanic! He has worked on my car for two years now, with no problems. Am I liable for the labor of taking the trans back out? Should he have caught the bad throw-out bearing? All of this came new with my clutch kit. I bought the kit form the oem SACHS. Can I hold them liable for the labor of taking and reinstallation of the tranny? Any help is appreciated.
