loosing coolant S70 1998

Hello, I have a 98 s70 turbo and it is loosing coolant where the bottom heater hose atatches to the heater core. Could it be it needs to be tightened or do guys think it is the heater core. I really hope it is not the heater core.
also, I see the bottom heater hose has a threaded fitting that looks like it can be tightened but, i don't see a fitting for the top one.

Thanks
Dennis

Do you smell coolant in the cabin with the heat on? Are the carpets near your feet (when you extend them out) on the drivers' side especially (sometimes it gets over on the passenger side too) wet? If not, then if you pull the carpets up a bit, is it wet underneath? If no to these questions then I wouldn't suspect a heater core...you probably need a new hose. The hoses get soft and don't hold a good seal after years and high temps.

I have heard that S 70 are bad for heater core life. Did you ever switch away from Volvo coolant?? it's not reccommended. A good way to check is, having the heater on full blast through the front windshield defroster grille, if the windshield fog's up it is definately the core. My 91 740 went about a year ago, when my daughter told me, dad how come the windshield fog's up all the time? That was it, so god luck to you.

Thanks for the advice, do you guys think it would be ok to put in some kind of stop leak in the coolant. I know their is no gaurantee this would work, but do you think it would do anymore damage.

      Thanks
      Dennis

LOSING Coolant is already bad, putting in 'Stop Leak' S70 1998

is like putting a danaid on a heavy bleeding.
The Stop Leak will damage the Heater Core becaUSE OF ITS PARTICLES.

The best thing to do is to find the source of leakage and repair it.

Doing the Heater Core is not that hard on the 850 series:
