Wheel bearing 1998 V70XC V70-XC70

My daughter recently bought a used 1998 V70XC which now has 105,000 miles on it and has a very noisy right front wheel bearing that needs to be replaced. After looking through the paperwork from the previous owner, I noticed that front wheel bearing were replaced 3 previous times.
The first time a right front wheel-hub bearing assy was replaced at 41,000 miles 10/2001. The next time bearings were replaced was 07/2002 and 04/2005, however, on the repair order, there is no indication of mileage and if it was the left front or right front.
The other previous Volvo's in the family, (too many to mention 140's / 240's and 2 850's) some with over 200,000 miles never had a wheel bearing problem.
Are front wheel bearings a common problem with the V70 XC ?
Have other had the same problem ? Thanks Fred

Frequently, on repeat bearing failures (where contamination is not the cause), it turns out to be a woren or miss-machined car part, that causes the bearing to fail. Check carefully the ID and OD of bearing and associated instalation tolerances for the bearing, hub, shaft, etc.. Art

The right front seems to be the most problematic with the early awd. I wonder if it could be associated with the design of awd or just an alignment problem? Make sure the tires are rotated every 5-6,000 miles.

Front wheel bearings fail more often on FWD and 4WD cars than on RWD cars in my opinion. I have had to replace them on GM and VW FWD cars more often than I would have thought. I have replaced both L&R on my 96(230K miles)and both on my daughter's 95 at 120K miles. The 1800 has the original bearings but the milage is lower, 70K. There should really be no difference between FWD and AWD though. I think it's all in the quality of the bearing. All of the Volvo bearings I have replaced were SKF which is the company that Volvo started from.
Just my opinion and a little trivia.
