Hey Klaus (or anyone),

I need to replace the electrical portion of my ignition switch on a 96 850. I think but am not sure that I read a post by you on this a while back (now can't find it) about the order of removing and reinstalling the four Torx screws that hold the plastic cover in place behind the steering wheel. I have loooooooooong Torx screwdrivers.

    Thank goodness I am not the only one out here who has done the clamshell. Yep, the bottom one first.
    Where did you find the extra long torx drivers? Sears only had the 4 inch.

      Thanks to all you guys! Real easy job knowing the Torx sizes and order to remove/install it. I would have fooled around all afternoon otherwise. I found a 8" 15 Torx at Sears (last on they had on the pegboard)and it would be a bear w/o it. I believe you said you managed with a long 1/4" extension and T bit? Main problem I had was getting the torx to engage the fastner by feel waaaaaaaay up in the recessed hole.

        I guess I need to make another trip to my local Sears. The 1/4 inch 6" extension on my ratchet with a T15 bit has a very hard time getting up the hole, besides not knowing if I am over tightening it.

      Thanks. Yes, that's what I need to replace. The post just said it was a lot easier to put it all back together if the two shallow/deep Torx screws were installed first and I don't remember which.

        Install the bottom half first with the 2 shallow screws, then the top cover and deep screws.
