Odometer died... What to do? 850 1995

Well I was really getting excited as my odometer approached 150k but just the other day I woke up to the fact that my odometer decided to stop turning at 149,982 miles. Anyway, what is the recommendation to fix this problem?

Thanx!

You can buy a replacement odometer drive gear from www.odometergears.com. The replacement gear is stronger than the factory gear.

There's some good instructions and How-To articles over at Mathew's Volvo site:

Its a pretty easy repair. Having a Turbo gauge adds a little more hassle to it, but only in disconnecting the turbo gauge tubing down by the hood latch handle, then not damaging the turbo gauge itself when you pull the cluster apart. I would replace the instrument lights in the cluster while you have it apart.

The odometer drive gear has worn out. Sort of common on 850's. $50 !!! item from Volvo plus labor although there is a speedometer gear web site that will sell you one for around $30 plus shipping. Dash cover and instrument cluster has to be removed. Plenty of good instructions available on, I believe, "Michales's Volvo" (?) web site. Try a google search.

I had guy come to my office to do it...a mobile unit. It wasn't expensive and didn't take them long....but the light on my trip meter hasn't worked since.

They knocked it loose. If they're used to taking the dash loose to get to the instrument cluster, they can do it again without much effort. Call them up and complain and have them come out and get your light back on.
