Fault Code sez Atmosphere Pressure Sensor? 850 1997

My check engine light came on and my mechanic tells me the code indicated "Atmospheric Pressure Sensor" and that the part was $170. He will clear the code and see if it comes back before I spend the $$. What part is he talking about? Is it hard to replace?

look right between your windshield washer tank and your passenger side head light...you'll see a sensor attached to the side wall of the fender. That's it. go to www.fcpgroton.com If not on their site, call them. They will be much cheaper than the dealer and you can replace this easily yourself. To reset this code, just unplug your battery for 10-15 minutes...make sure you have your radio code.

Thanks for your response. Is this a common failure? They re-set the code and it hasn't come back yet. But if it comes back, should I go ahead and replace, or suspect that it might be something else triggering the code if it isn't a hard failire?

Mine "failed", but in reality it was just the wires to the plug that went bad. This part normally doesn't fail, just don't play with it while the car is on.

Had a similar problem and after pluging and pluging in a couple of times all seems ok after resetting.

The only posts I've seen on this over the years have been 3 or 4 in the past month or so....so, I'd say it's not a common failure. But all of our cars (850's esp.) are getting up there in years and we're finally starting to see some "other" part failures, so it's not surprising. Reset the code, if it doesn't come back, don't worry about it. If it does, suspect the wiring or the connecting points first before buying a new sensor. After re-reading what Klaus and others have posted, this makes good sense.
