ca ca cold 850 1993

I was given an 850 with a frozen block(she didn't like adding motor oil). I was told that often the bearings overlap and lock which causes the freezing. I am also told that these blocks are VERY different than the 200 series blocks so I can't drop the oil pan and attack (remove just the crank as comparted to the whole subframe) the engine from the bottom. Is that true? Is there a prescribed method for dealing with frozen motors? (other than TNT)

Thanks!!

Andrew

If this engine has some spun bearings then it's probably alot easier and less expensive to just get a good used engine. If the PO "didn't like to add oil" then there's probably more engine wear around the valve guides and rings. They're available on ebay.

Because of the way this car is put together, the easiest way is to pull the engine and tranny as one unit. You can't drop the oil pan without taking out the subframe.
It might be a blessing, the rear main seal replacement calls for the same procedure, so do it while the engine is out.

Thaw her out!

In all seriousness...I'm not sure if you mean that it seized up due to lack of oil or it's frozen due to the cold, sub-freezing weather. If seized then you'll have to rebuild the engine. If it's got some kind of vapor-lock just out of nowhere, then try pulling each spark plug (check them while you have them out) and pour a teaspoon of oil into each hole and then try cranking. How do you know it's frozen up anyway?
