'96 850 AC problems got questions 850

With the ac switch in the "off" position and the temp. guages set in the coldest positon and the fan off:

When I turn the fan on the compressor comes on and cycles rapidly on and off like it doesn't have any freon in it.

When we turn the AC to the "on" position there is no change, the compressor continues to cycle until the fan switch is turned off.

The AC does not blow cold as I assume it is out of 134 because of a leak on the evap or condensor, whichever unit is under the dash.....

What does this mean?

I thought I'd just add more 134 and hope for the best; is this a good plan of action?

Josh

You may have the car thinking it is in defrost mode, and defrost will run the AC.
Add one can of R134a and see if that improves it. Remember, at idle and cold engine, the compressor will cycle a lot anyway.
