The only 242 I could find (socket A5) was for the TCU - vacuum line leak. I would suspect you are having vacuum line and elbow problems. Clear the codes and if they come back, replace the lines.
IPD or FCPgroton sells a kit for elbows.

What physical symptoms does the car have. I have an 93 850 that has given similar codes in the past, but after disconnecting the battery to work on the car, the codes never came back and the car was fine. I have found the codes to be helpful but not always correct. Of course you probably know that one of the codes is for the EGR. These volvos have EGR problems, but it can also by a symptom of a different problem that is causing air flow issues.

On another occasion, I think my car gave that code and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor. The dealer was unable to diagnose this and I found it by trial and error and this website. During this period the car acted as though it was running lean. Under pressure it would shutter and lurch. It idled very poorly when cold and would rarely stall.

I would start by cleaning idle air control valve and looking for a vacuum leak on the little hoses that are in that are. These suggestions are free and easy.

    Hope this helps!

Hmmmmmm, I see no mention of a 242 in the blue book, 1991-1995. Your 241 code is the EGR system flow faulty. Check out the vacuum source to and from the valve and the modulator. You will probably find a broken line, could also be a faulty valve or modulator.
